Bihar: RJD Blames Congress for Poll Rout, Dares the Party to Part Ways
In a sharp escalation of tensions within Bihar’s opposition alliance, the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) has openly blamed the Congress party for the Mahagathbandhan’s poor performance in the recent assembly elections.
The remarks come just days after several Bihar Congress leaders accused the RJD of inadequate cooperation during the campaign phase. This claim the RJD has now rejected while turning the criticism back on its partner.
According to the RJD, the Congress failed to demonstrate the organizational strength, strategic planning, and grassroots connect necessary to make the alliance’s campaign effective.
Senior RJD members argued that the Congress contested more seats than its on-ground capacity justified, ultimately dragging down the collective prospects of the alliance.
The statement is seen as a direct response to Congress leaders who earlier suggested that the RJD’s reluctance to coordinate seat-sharing, booth management, and campaign messaging contributed significantly to the alliance’s defeat. The Congress leadership had labelled the electoral setback “humiliating,” citing internal friction as a primary reason.
RJD Signals It Is Ready to Walk Away
In what is being perceived as an unusually aggressive posture, the RJD has indicated that it is prepared to part ways if the Congress feels unable to continue within the alliance. Party insiders suggest that the RJD leadership is frustrated with repeated public criticism from the Congress, claiming such comments weaken the opposition’s credibility at a crucial political moment.
Observers believe this exchange marks the most serious public rift between the two parties since the formation of the Mahagathbandhan. The alliance, once projected as a united front against the ruling NDA, now appears to be grappling with deep internal mistrust.
Alliance Stability Under Question
Political analysts point out that both parties have historically struggled to maintain cohesion during and after elections. The latest dispute has once again raised questions about the alliance’s future.
While the Congress holds the national brand, the RJD remains the dominant force in Bihar , a dynamic that has often created friction over resource allocation, seat-sharing and narrative control.
If the war of words continues, the Mahagathbandhan may face an uncertain future, potentially altering the political landscape in Bihar ahead of the next electoral cycle.
As of now, neither party has officially announced any separation, but the exchange of statements indicates that the relationship is under severe strain. Whether the two parties will reconcile or head toward a formal split remains to be seen.
